Bonus Week

It is hard to believe that this is the last week. This week I created a Pandora account. I think this may work out. I have put together a play list on aol music, but this concept is kind of interesting. The only problem is that I have to know the names of artists that I like. For some reason, I can't always remember the artists or the title of the songs without looking at a play list.

I must say, as hesitant as I was to use web 2.0, I have learned alot. Whether I remember how to use everything is another story. I probably won't use facebook anymore now that my daughter is home from Europe. There is just too much information that I don't need to know. I will use some of the photo sites and and possibly google.doc.

Thanks for the training.

Week 12 - Fun Photo's

This week I played around with photo's. I can see where this can be fun when I do my powerpoints for storytime. I could put little bubbles with sayings, and none of the kids would understand what I was saying. It could be something amusing for the parents who are bored with being there. Only kidding!

Week 11 - Online Productivity

Well, this was a tough one. Thank goodness for Becky's help. I have a gmail account so I tried to get a document Gay Lynn wanted to share. Not knowing that she was using my henrico address, I tried to access it with my gmail address. Can't be done. I now have two accounts.

Anyway, I think that google doc will be a good resource for me. Possibly, I will put our monthly brochure on and share it with the children's staff. This way, there will be no lost paper, and everyone can put in their imput. How clever.

I also liked that Gay Lynn was able to share her power point. This will be a great way for us to share songs and rhymes -- sometime in the future.

Week 10 tags/social networking

I am happy to say that again I am familiar with tags and social networking. I have used tags to find pictures. I read about delicious and Matt's information that he has posted. I have also looked up information on delicious. I will probably continue to use these resources.

Week 9 - Social Networking

So, now I am hooked on facebook. I haven't written anything on anyone's wall, but I find it interested to read what's on my friends wall. That has gotten me in some trouble though. It is not a good idea to read your children's walls. Too much information. I only have one smart child who did not friend me. What could he be hiding? hum

I reviewed shelfari. That is a site that I think I would probably be able to use. I don't really think that I want my own shelf, but a lot of times I am looking for a good book, and this site might help me.

Week 8 gaming

This week I had the opportunity to learn about gaming. I knew how to play solitaire, and now that I know that other games are free, this is not a good thing. I will take control of the situation, and not allow myself to spend too much of my free time on line playing games. I do have a life away from the computer.

Week 7 - wiki's

Well, after reading about wiki's, I think this is something that I probably can use in the library. I don't know if I will ever create my own, but I certainly feel that I can use it to find information.

Week Six - photo sharing

Once again I am really impressed that I already use photo sharing. It has been a great way for me to share pictures with my friends and family. I recently was able to see pictures from my granddaughter's soccer game on Kodak, and my other daughter who is studying in Europe has created a photo album on myphotoalbum.com. It is a wonderful source for seeing what she is doing. By her setting up a photo album, I don't have to go on her facebook to see pictures that I really don't want to look at.

I can see utilizing photo sharing for special programs, crafts, and storytime ideas. This would be a good way for staff from all the libraries to see what is being done, and how successful it is.

Week 5 Podcasting

Believe it or not, I know about podcasting. The first time I used it was when VT was having their memorial service. Since I was working I wasn't able to watch it, so I was able to listen to the Podcast. If I am not mistaken, I believe that during one of the children's meeting we listened to a podcast. It was hard to pay attention to it because there were so many people in the room, and the speaker wasn't working correctly.

I think it could be useful if I was interested in the subject they were podcasting about. I'm more visual then auditory.

twittering

Well, this week I learned about twitter. What was interesting was on the day that I listened to the info., I went home at lunch time and turned on Ellen. P. Diddy was on and explaining to Ellen about how to twitter. He said he loved it, and showed her how to do it. Her response was pretty similar to mine, "why would you write down everything you are doing for people to see?"

Anyway, I decided to be open to new things. I opened a facebook account. It is unbelievable how fast people find you. I became friends quickly with a lot of people, none of whom were my children. I believe that they totally ignored me. But then again, do I really want to know what they are doing?

Week 3 RSS

I can't believe that I have asked Bunny for help. It is like the blind leading the blind. She actually has a feed but she is acting like she doesn't know what to do. Do you believe that. Well, I guess I going to have to ask someone else for help because I just can't follow directions. I guess the first thing that I have to do is find a good feed. Wish me luck!

I owe Bunny an apology. We did connect correctly to CNN, and I actually connected to People. Whoo, hoo, we are good!

week 2 blog

This week I learned about what a blog is. I don't really feel that I will get on at home and start blogging about anything, but at work it might be useful to get ideas for storytime rhymes and songs, as well as some craft ideas..
